Lake PepinThis is one of my favorite events of the year. Kick off the summer with some great bargain hunting while you enjoy the scenery of Lake Pepin and the Mississippi River Valley.

During the first weekend of May every year, residents and store owners clean out their attics, garages, & basements to create a spectacular garage sale.

Balloons and ribbons identify participating garage sales from Alma on the southern end of the Wisconsin side of Lake Pepin, north along Hwy. 35 through Nelson, Pepin, Stockholm, and Maiden Rock to Bay City, WI.

The trail crosses west to Minnesota at Red Wing, MN and heads south on Hwy. 61 through Frontenac, Lake City, Camp LaCupolis, Reads Landing, Wabasha, Kellogg and Winona.

You can start anywhere along the route beginning at about 8 a.m. with closing time set for about 5 p.m. all three days. Rain or Shine!

Consider bringing a picnic lunch. There are many parks and scenic overlooks along the way that make great picnic spots. Although there are some great places to eat, especially The Pickle Factory and Harbor View Cafe in Pepin, WI, be ready for a long wait if you choose to eat out! (For more information about this area, check out my Mississippi River Valley post).

As I mentioned in the 100-Mile Garage Sale post, the Lake Pepin area is a beautiful area for a picnic and a scenic drive. Don’t let the summer pass without a family trip to this beautiful area that is only an hour from Eau Claire.
